Talking about Paris, there are always people saying they don’t like this city – ’cause it’s just too cliché: berets & baguettes, good wine, the Eiffel Tour, the Louvre. You got it! But honestly, that’s exactly what I love so much about this city. It’s simply unmistakable because it has all those sights and those clichés!
Thinking about it, there are just two clichés I can’t hear anymore – because they are just not true!– Paris stinks!
Well, admittedly, if you wander through the Parisian streets for a while, it may happens that you a pass an area with a not so nice smell. BUT, that’s not a Parisian problem. It’s exactly the same if you walk around in Milan, Berlin or any other metropolis! Denigrating Paris for being smelly does not count!
– Parisian people are unfriendly and don’t want to speak English
In general, I never experienced Parisians to be unfriendly at all. Again, there are unfriendly people everywhere in this world, so I’m sure there are some in Paris too! Also, I never ever had problems to communicate in English when I was in Paris. I even experienced the exact opposite when I put so much effort in creating proper French sentence to order something in a restaurant, but the waiters always replied in English. Which is not only a wonderful evidence for them being friendly and more than willing to speak English, but also for my really bad French! ;)
Immer wieder höre ich, wie Leute sagen, sie mögen Paris nicht – es sei Ihnen zu Klischee: Berets & Baguettes, guter Wein, der Eiffelturm, das Louvre.
Ihr wisst schon! Aber genau das ist es, was ich an Paris so gerne mag. Es ist schlichtweg unverkennbar, nicht zuletzt dank dieser Klischees und Wahrzeichen, die es nun einmal einfach ausmachen! Es gibt da bloss zwei Klischees, die mir auf den Wecker gehen – weil sie schlicht nicht wahr sind!– In Paris stinkt es!
Zugegeben, wenn man manche Strassen entlang schlendert, schlägt einem tatsächlich ab und an ein unschöner Geruch entgegen. ABER, dass ist nicht nur in Paris so, sondern genau so auch in Mailand, Berlin und so ziemlich jeder anderen Grossstadt auch. Paris also direkt damit abzuwerten zählt bei mir nicht!
– Die Pariser sind unfreundlich und sprechen kein Englisch
Grundsätzlich kommen mir die Pariser überhaupt nicht unfreundlich vor. Again, unfreundliche Menschen gibt es überall! Und bislang hatte ich auch nie Probleme, mich auf Englisch zu verständigen oder umgekehrt. Im Gegenteil, ich gebe mir immer grösste Mühe, meinen französisch Wortschatz zusammenzukratzen, um einen halbwegs geraden Satz zusammenzukriegen um etwas zu bestellen und bekomme dann trotzdem immer eine Antwort in Englisch, weil es anscheinend doch ziemlich offensichtlich ist, das mein Französisch eher dürftig ist.
